Very Good heaters for what they are. I'd buy them again.EDIT: ~4 years later-Jan 2020- these are still working great! I've now got these in two rooms (4 total heaters)Hot Surface as expected--Update this paragraph only 7 Dec 2016: I ran the heaters constant-on for about 30 minutes and then measured the exposed surface area temperature with my IR Temperature meter on each of my two units. The lower portion of the units was the hottest with maximum temperature of 216 F on one and 208 F on the other. The top of the units were a little cooler but still in the 180-190F range. Touch taping them was OK but leaving a hand there felt like it would have burned. For balance, most gas wall heaters I've had have been pretty hot when on, so for me I don't see this as different. But this question was asked before and the temperatures were only given after heaters were on for a short time.I bought two of these looking for a completely quiet heater. They been in use for a few weeks plugged into an outlet programmable thermostat (Lux Win100 thermostat--good product and here on Amazon) in a bedroom. They make absolutely no noise, completely quiet. They have an on/off switch that has an internal red light when on. I'm pretty comfortable and experienced working with electricity and preferring dark when I sleep, disconnected the power to the switch lights. Very simple if experienced: 3 screws, spade connectors and removal of neutral pig tail. Because I defeated the switch lights, other than if they are warm, there is no indication of any sort when they turn on or off, which is why I bought them. I've never had any other room heater of any sort that has been this unobtrusive and I've purchased many hoping for quite but all others banged or pinged when the metal housing cooled and heated or just had a bad 60 cycle hum.I used two for the bedroom because I leave them off for most of the day with the bedroom door shut and want the room to heat up fairly quickly when the plug in thermostat turns them on (the room gets cold with door shut and heaters off). The two heaters use the same amount of power as 1 heater, they will just be on for half as long because I control them with the plug in wall thermostat. And if I find in the warmer fall and spring months I don't need as much heat (they cycle too often or overshoot on temperature setting, then I'll just switch one off.Energy savings: I've a wall socket energy meter that I plan to see how much these cost to run during the "winter" months (Santa Cruz CA, but no wall or floor insulation and 16 square feet of single pane windows ). I'll try to remember to post my actual costs when I get them. With that said, if you can use gas for your application it will be several times cheaper. The only way these would be cheaper than gas is if this allows you to turn the rest of your house heat off at night, heating only your bedroom or other small space with electricity. This is my application, including my strong desire for noiseless. Being a light sleeper, I love the complete noiseless.Note: for power comparisons 400 watts is about 1,360 BTUs.I bought my first two of these from the vendor here blinq. They came in the thin product cartoon, each shipped separately. And both were cracked all of the way across even though the product carton looked fine. If you get them from here you may want to inspect them right away for this, especially if you plan to install them much later. The vendor that sells them here, blinq, took them back with no questions and paid for shipping...so very good and Amazon did their usual solid job of asking if the vendor did OK by me. Thus for me, not seeing how they would every arrive not broken I picked up my second pair (the ones I installed) from HD: had them shipped to local store free so I could inspect them there. Your mileage may vary.Installation was very easy and quick. I used the actual heater mounting holes as my template to make marks on my walls for the mounting brackets. My holes all went into wood trim with two of them continuing into studs underneath and the other two continuing into lathe and plaster. The installation instructions don't talk about going into wood. I used the brick/concrete anchors provided and it worked fine. Do make sure you drill the holes deep enough with margin if going into a solid like wood or brick and do make sure you pass the drill in and out a few times to get all of the loose stuff out of the holes. The mounting brackets get hammered (using the plastic piece provided to protect the mounting bracket) fairly firmly into the hole and would be difficult to remove if you found out the hole was not deep enough or filled with drilling remnants. Note: you need to use the provided mounting brackets, even with wood, you can't, without making your own spacers, just use screws to attach them. With these thoughts in mind, it was a quick easy thoughtful setup for installation. I wish all installations went as easily.Bits: 400 watts is about 1,360 BTU per hour. Each heater uses 3.3 to 3.6 amps each depending on your voltage (110V being the higher amps than 120V). Power cords are 6' long and two prong. Each unit is 23 n 3/8" square outside edge to outside edge. Mounting holes are ~ 21 n 5/8" on center (don't use my measurements for mounting in case there is variation in manufacturing) and the back of the heater stands about 7/8" off the wall, except for the heater switch cover which is about 1/4" from the wall and is several inches by several inches wide and hidden in the back. The big square basically feels like a piece of smooth finish white cast cement--which it may be (like having heater coils buried in your concrete floor).Great product for what they are. Near perfect product for me.
